Dj'ing At Charterhouse< Zuzanna My Slovakian Date | Blog | My First Time To Guilfest > On Wednesday, the day before I met Zuzanna, I helped out my friend Tristan with his DJ'ing at the posh Charterhouse private school in Godalming. The DJ'ing was for American summer camp teenagers, which had come over here. I've helped out Tristan with this Amercian group on previous years before. One year Tristan's smoke machine set off the fire alarm, and we all had to leave the building until they could turn it off. When we went back inside again, Tristan played 'Firestarter' dance song by The Prodigy! I finished work an hour early, and I drove straight to Tristan's house in Elstead. At his house I spoke to his mum and his brother Ashley who were there, then we watched some of extras on the Borat movie DVD. We then left his house and got in his car, which was loaded up with his DJ'ing equipment. On the way there Tristan had a bit of trouble with his car, as his spark plugs needed changing, but we made it ok to the grounds of Charterhouse. Our destination for the DJ'ing was an outbuilding within the grounds of Charterhouse. The outbuilding was the size of a fairly large house. We were on the top floor. Once we had parked there, it was quite hard work lifting the DJ'ing equipment up the steps to the first floor, as some of it is quiet heavy.
It was really quick to set up the lights, table, and DJ booth this time round, which was good.
The party started at around 7pm. We played lots of good tunes and received lots of requests from the American teenagers. They were all dancing and enjoying themselves.
I don't actually do any DJ'ing myself, Tristan does that, I just help with carrying his equipment, setting it up, and taking song requests from the people at the party. They had a nice BBQ outside the building, with proper chefs cooking it. We were allowed to help ourselves to the BBQ food too. I got a big plateful of nice chicken, a corn cob, with salad and dressing, it was really tasty and very high quality food. I got a beer too, which was nice. The kids kept jumping up and down in time to the music, but as the floor was quiet bouncy, it caused Tristan's CD player to bounce up and down too, which caused the music to skip a bit. Tristan had to in the end lift his CD player off the table, to stop it skipping whilst they were jumping around. There were some bean bags up against the wall to the right of us. Some of the kids were sitting and jumping on the bean bags. One of the kids switched off the DJ'ing equipment and the lights and sound died down. We thought it was a power cut, but Tristan quickly worked out that the switch on the wall had been turned off, and switched it back on, so it got started again. The boy that did it came up to us and apologised, which I thought was very good and honest of him, it's not something a British kid would apologise for. I told him not to worry about it, and to enjoy the party. Later on that night, one of the organisers asked us which kid switched it off, but I kept quiet about it, as I did not want to ruin the boy's holiday, by him getting told off. We finished dead on at 10pm, which was the time Tristan had agreed to play to. The organisers thanked us for our work, and they were really pleased with us. I helped Tristan take all the DJ equipment and lights down again and loaded up his car. We drove back to his house, and I drove my car back home. I got home again about 11.30pm, so it was not too late, as I was worried about being a tired zombie for my date with Zuzanna the next day. Related ContentComments on Dj'ing At Charterhouse |
