Breaking The Serpents Spell< Boileroom Poetry Slam | Blog | Count Barry Goes To A Halloween Banquet > Frog recently sent me a website link about a conspiracy theorist and author called Matthew Delooze, which you can view by clicking here. He also has a blog, click here if you wish to read it. Matthew Delooze was doing a talk on Sunday 23rd October, which was during the afternoon inside the Whiteway Centre, in a village called Rottingdean near Brighton. The talk was called ‘Breaking The Serpents Spell’. It all sounded very weird and wacky, so I agreed to go along with Frog to see Matthew Delooze’s talk. Some of Frog’s conspiracy theorist friends from an internet forum he uses were also going to the event, and travelling from all round the country to get there. This made it even more interesting for me to go to it. We decided that we could go out in Brighton that evening after the talk had ended. Frog used to live in Brighton, and still has friends in that area, which we could go and see. We were going to meet up with two of them called Owen and Harriet. I have met Frog’s artist friend Owen before in Brighton, which you can read about by clicking here. His other friend Harriet I have also met before, which was in Guildford. A few music videos of Harriet made by Frog are included below.
On the Sunday morning, I left home around 11am, and drove towards Frog’s home in Guildford. It was pouring with rain as usual, but I have learnt to ignore the wet and cold this year, as it has been like it all the time. I parked my car in Guildford and walked down the hill towards Frog’s cottage. I opened the side gate, and knocked on his front door. I had my camera at the ready this time, as Frog has a habit of always coming out his shower whenever I arrive at his home. I was hoping to get a funny picture of Frog opening his front door like that. But when he opened his door, he had not had a shower, so I missed out on the funny photo opportunity, but I still took his picture anyway as I had my camera with me.
As I took Frog’s picture, he spotted a Robin amongst the vine leaves on the wall behind me, so I took a photo of the Robin too.
Frog got ready, and we then left his cottage, to head towards my car. I brought along my Tom-Tom in-car satellite navigation system with me, as I didn’t have time to look inside a map book, to find out where Rottingdean was located. I asked Frog to keep an eye on the Tom-Tom for me, as we set off in my car for our journey towards the event.
Frog used my camera to take some photos of things he saw through my car window, and of things he saw inside my car too, whilst I was driving.
I didn’t bring any CD’s with me, so I could hear the Tom-Tom give out road directions in my car. The Tom-Tom was mostly ok with getting us to Rottingdean. There were a few mad drivers around, but I always manage to avoid collisions with them. As we approached Rottingdean we drove over some hills and then came to a run down village. Whilst we were waiting at some traffic lights, we saw a plastic sea fisherman stuck on the top of a small shop roof. The shop sign markings had worn away, and the TV aerials on the roof of the shop were all bent to one side. It looked like a shantytown, or a ghost town. I don’t know why, but we found this sight amusing. We then drove through Rottingdean, and past a pond with a seagull sat on the surface of the water. The rest of Rottingdean looked very nice.
I tried to park in the car park of the Whiteway Centre, the location of the talk, but it was fenced off with tape and traffic cones. So, I had to turn my car around, and look for a parking space closer to the centre of the village. I found a small spot to squeeze my car into down a side road between a van and another car. As we got out of my car, I needed to find and use a toilet. I spotted a public toilet and went inside, whilst Frog waited in the street. I closed the cubicle door behind me, and couldn’t believe what I saw in there with me. I dared not to put my bag on the ground, as there appeared to be something nasty smeared all over the tiled floor beneath my feet. There was also the biggest spider I have ever seen crawling on the floor towards my shoes wherever I tried to sit, or stand. It must have arrived in Rottingdean via a banana boat, it was huge like a tarantula spider. The contents of the toilet were left unflushed by the last one hundred people that used it. The worse thing I saw what was written on the inside of the toilet door. That was the last straw for me. I took a few photos whilst I was in there, as I was so horrified, it was too gross, so I quickly got out of there without using the loo.
It was around 12.15pm, and as the talk was not due to start at 1pm, we had time to get some food and a beer. We walked towards the village centre to look for somewhere to eat and drink.
There was a pub we tried getting into called the Ye Olde Black Horse, but we saw on the door it was not due to open until 1pm, which was too late for us. On the other side of the road there was a small supermarket, so went in there to buy some food. I bought some vegetarian wraps, crisps, and a bottle of water, whilst Frog bought a Cornish pasty to eat, and some tobacco to smoke. At the till, Frog gave me his money towards my petrol, and for his ticket to the event.
We left the shop to see if we could find any other pub open on the way to the Whiteway Centre. Frog was munching away on his Cornish pasty whilst we were walking and talking together on our way to the event.
There was a road called Whipping Post Lane, which we found amusing, so we took pictures of each other standing beside the road sign.
Frog thought he spotted a pub on the other side of the road, but when we got to the entrance, we saw that it was Rottingdean Members Club, so we couldn’t get in there for a quick drink either.
We walked on further, and there was nothing around other than some nice looking stone houses.
I saw an entrance to some public gardens to our right, so I suggested to Frog we go into the gardens to walk around, so I could take some photos. It was named ‘Kipling Gardens’, not after the cakes you can buy in your supermarket, but the famous author called Rudyard Kipling, who once lived there, and wrote stories like the ‘Jungle Book’. You can read more about Kipling Gardens by clicking here.
I took many photos of the gardens, some of which I have included below.
Frog briefly disappeared by himself behind some bushes in the gardens, and then reappeared again some moments later, with a bit of a guilty expression upon his face.
Frog then received some calls on his mobile from his friends on the internet forum he uses, who were also going to the same event as us.
Time was getting on, so we left the gardens to walk up the various small streets leading towards the Whiteway Centre.
We got a bit lost for a brief moment. I then slipped over on the rain soaked pavement and landed flat on my back. Frog was more worried about my camera than my own well-being, but both the camera and myself were undamaged by the fall. I let Frog walk on a bit in front, whilst I took photos of what I saw around me in the village.
I took a photo of a monument, with a pigeon caught in mid flight above it, and of an old church made out of flint. You can read about the church by clicking here.
We then came to Whiteway Lane leading to the Whiteway Centre.
As Frog walked up the hill towards the Whiteway Centre, he left a trail of smoke behind him from puffing away on his roll up fag.
When we got to the entrance to the car park of the Whiteway Centre, we took some photos of each other standing outside the building, as I waited for Frog to finish smoking.
We walked into the Whiteway Centre, and it looked quite nice inside, all wooden and circular in places. The talk was being held inside a room made of lots of wood, which had a triangular roof above us. There were rows of seats facing a screen. We saw a film crew and the speaker Matthew Delooze prepare for the talk. I handed in our tickets to a lady sitting at a desk, and we sat near the front row. Frog spotted one of his online forum friends as we sat next to him. His name was Ben, he looked a lot like a DJ I’ve met a few times before called Dave Pearce. Ben was a nice friendly chap and was interesting to talk to. Ben has published some books, and has his own blog. I munched on my crisps and vegetarian wraps before Matthew Delooze started his talk. I took some more photos whilst they were getting ready to start the talk.
Once everyone had been seated, Matthew Delooze then began. Matthew first showed a short introduction video, which was mainly words and music, but had some good waves from the sea. I enjoyed watching it.
Matthew Delooze’s talk was very interesting. His talk was about ancient religions, sun worshippers, Egyptians, Mayans, Aztecs, the Serpent Cult, Illuminati, monuments, lay lines, subliminal messages, aliens, and so on. It was only his third public talk, but I thought he put his views across very well, and it was interesting seeing his own evidence to support his claims. Matthew’s evidence included sources from all sorts of unusual things, such as the Rocky films, football stadiums, music gigs, New Years Eve fireworks by the London Eye, some Northern fairground by the coast, and a promotion video for the 2012 London Olympics. I will not go into too much detail about the contents of Matthew Deloozes talk, but I am sure he will soon become very well known, just like the other similar strange public speakers out there, like David Icke. I believe in free speech, everyone should have the right to express their own views, or beliefs, whether or not others think of it right, or wrong, as it opens up some good debate. I have included a video someone made about Matthew Delooze, which I found online. The talk went on from just after 1pm until around 5pm, with a few breaks in between. During one of the breaks, I got chatting to a nice Irish girl, who was originally from Belfast. She was also an online forum friend of Frog. She wishes to remain anonymous, so for the sake of this blog, I will refer to her with a fake name of 'Mary'. I liked Mary, as she was friendly, chatty, and full of interesting stories about her life. I liked hearing about her band, her family, a psychic from Bulgaria that her family had adopted, her life in Ireland, as well about her past career as a champagne hostess in London. Mary should write a book, I would read it all. A young guy during one of the breaks also started chatting to me, he worked as a stage actor. It was interesting to hear that he went to a drama school in my home town of Guildford, and knew my village. It was a bit spooky to be honest when he started speaking to me, as I thought he knew me for some reason. I enjoyed speaking to him though. After Matthew Delooze had finished his talk, he did a questions and answers section, which caused some interesting debate. The film crew were often pointing in my direction when the audience were asking questions to Matthew, which was a bit embarrassing for me, although I think the video may just appear on YouTube. When the open questions and answers debate had ended, Matthew then told the audience that he was off to the local Plough pub down the road, and anyone was welcome to join him. The audience then applauded and started to leave the building to head towards the pub. I thought it was a good idea to get a photo opportunity along with me and Frog standing next to Matthew Delooze. I asked someone in the audience to take our picture, which I have included below.
Frog and I then headed towards the Plough pub for a few drinks. On the way to the pub, Frog called Owen and Harriet to arrange a meet up time for us all in Brighton, for after we had left the Plough and Rottingdean.
Whilst Frog was on his mobile, I asked him to request Owen to get the postcode of the pub in Brighton, where his friends would be later that evening. My Tom-Tom would lead us the way there later in my car using the post code. Inside the Plough in Rottingdean, it is a very old pub, full of dark wood, shadows, local people, and good character. At the bar, Frog bought us a round of drinks.
We then stood outside whilst Frog had smoke.
Back inside the pub some of the crowd from the event had also arrived. Frog spotted another internet forum member he knew called Lotty, he took a picture of her on my camera eating a sausage.
He also saw Ben sitting at a table, who we were sat next to in the audience at the event. Frog took his picture too.
A friendly lady then got chatting to me, her name was Wendy, and she was from Brighton. Wendy was taking down people’s email addresses to keep in touch with those who went to the talk. I liked Wendy’s company. We have since been in touch by email. I would like to go along to one of the trance events Wendy mentioned to me in Brighton. I will try to arrange something with Frog, as it would be great fun to spend a few days in Brighton to hang out with Wendy, and Frog there.
We then took some photos together with Frog’s internet forum friends inside the pub.
Not long after that, the Irish girl Mary came into the Plough, with her friend Paul, who had come all the way from Liverpool to see the talk. Paul is a chef. Frog told Mary and Paul that we were heading off to Brighton later on to meet up with his friends Owen, Harriet, and her boyfriend Chris. Mary asked if we could give her and Paul a lift to Brighton in my car. As we were leaving the Plough pub, both Frog and myself were caught by some more of the 'Breaking the Serpent Spell' crowd. Frog got chatting to a lady who had come all the way from Edinburgh to see the talk. Whilst Frog was chatting away to the others, I watched and listened to an Irish folk band who were playing inside the pub. They were very good, and I took a photo of them as they were playing.
On the way out of the pub with Frog, Paul, and Mary, we saw Matthew Delooze standing by the bar. Matthew asked if we wanted a drink with him, but we couldn’t sadly stay any longer, as we were on our way to Brighton. We shook his hand and thanked him for his interesting and well-presented talk. We left the Plough and walked back along the village roads towards my car. Paul and Mary sat in the back of my car, and Frog sat in the front with me to help with the navigating. Frog gave me the postcode of a pub in Brighton called the Green House, which is where his friends were waiting. I entered it into my Tom-Tom and we drove towards the pub. It didn’t take long too long for me to drive to Brighton, I had a bit of trouble parking, but managed to get into a small space by the side of the road. It was easy to spot the Green House pub in Brighton, as it was all lit up in green light. Inside the Green House, it was quite pleasant. An old Victorian house had been converted into the pub. They had easy listening music playing from some speakers by the bar.
We saw Owen, and Harriet sat with her boyfriend Chris at a table. Then we walked over to sit with them. Frog and I took some more photos using my camera.
As I was taking photos, we noticed that there was a painting of Eve from the Bible with a snake on the wall, which was funny due to the talk we went to see earlier that day.
I found out that Harriet’s boyfriend Chris plays medieval music in a band. It was interesting hearing about the events that Chris had played at with his band. Chris has also played music at medieval fancy dress parties inside castles. There were some great conversations going on our table in the Green House pub that night. We left the pub quite late. I needed to head back home, which was due to my need to get up early to go to work the next day. Paul and Mary asked for a lift back to Guildford, due to missing their train from Brighton back to London, so they came back with Frog and me in my car. The Tom-Tom took me back to Guildford on a different route along the M25. I hate using that motorway, as I find it a bit scary with the fast speed, lorries and the many lanes. So it was a bit unexpected for me that the Tom-Tom took us back that way. Frog was busy chatting to Mary and Paul, who were sat in the back of my car. Everyone was a bit rowdy, as they were a little drunk. I sadly could not drink any alcohol myself that night, as I was driving. We arrived back in Guildford. I dropped Frog off at his cottage, Paul and Mary decided to crash out at his place for the night, and to catch a train back to London the next day. I then drove myself back home. It was an interesting day out. I like Brighton, and most places by the sea. I look forward to going to some more similar events in the future. Related ContentComments on Breaking The Serpents Spell2
