World Snooker Championship Final 2008

< Christian The Lion | Blog | Me, Myself, And I >

Tristan recently gave me another CD of photos of some things we have been to together this year.

Back in May of this year, I travelled to Sheffield by train with Tristan, to see the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre.

This was my second time to Sheffield with Tristan to see the World Snooker Championship. You can read about when I went there last year by clicking here.

The Sheffield trip was a bit different this year, as I went to see the actual final of the World Snooker Championship, which was great to be able to see it live in the audience.

We had a good time in Sheffield and stayed in a hotel for a few nights, which was just five minutes walk away from the Crucible Theatre.

I remember we did many things during our stay.

We visited the Winter Gardens again, and Tristan took a few short video clips and some photos of us there.

It was good to walk round Sheffield and see the sights again like the fountains.

Did lots of shopping too, and bought some DVDs at a good price.

There was a big market along the streets, which included stalls selling food from lots of different countries. Some of the food on sale was very good.

I enjoyed eating out in the city as well. The Cuban restaurant there served me a great meal and some nice cocktails.

We saw some famous people walking around who were there to watch the snooker.

Tristan met up with one of his friends, who moved to live in Sheffield a few years ago. We had some drinks with him and he showed us round the area. His friend thinks its great living in the city, as the cost of living is a lot cheaper, and there is lots to do and see in Sheffield.

We also went inside the studios of Sheffield radio station, as Tristan’s friend works in there. Tristan had a go at being a radio DJ whilst in one of the studios. Tristan wasn’t broadcast live across Sheffield, but his friend recorded it on to a CD for him.

Watching the snooker matches live at the Crucible was good fun again this year. We had good seats again close to the front. We were spotted on BBC television sitting in the crowd.

I'm pulling a funny face here, I don't normally look like that!

There was a funny moment during the snooker final where a guy who was sat in front of us suddenly stood up and ripped off his tuxedo. His suit came off quickly, as it was stuck together with Velcro. Underneath he was wearing just a thong. He was a streaker, the famous Mark Roberts. He does his streaking at big sporting events all over the world. He even has his own website here. It was hilarious watching him do it, as it was like something from a Benny Hill comedy sketch show. He ran across to where the snooker table was and hid underneath it. It took ages for the security people to pull him from under the table and take him away. Some people where in hysterics, other people were annoyed with him, or made no comment about it at all. The cameras quickly switched to the audience and commentary box whilst all this was going on. I have included a  video clip of this below.

I wish a lady streaker did that!

I enjoyed watching Ronnie O'Sullivan play against Ali Carter in the final. It was a bit of a one sided match, as Ronnie easily won the game.

It was great to see a live match where Ronnie O’Sullivan won the game as well, as he is a very popular player.

I look forward to seeing the World Snooker Championship final again in 2009.
