Slugs And Slaters
< My Doppelgänger | Blog | Rob and Helen's Wedding Afterparty >
Last week whilst I was enjoying sitting on a deckchair in the garden reading, I read in my camera manual that there is a super macro setting on my camera.
I knew my camera had a macro setting, as I have used it before. However, I never knew I could get even closer to things with a super macro option.
I have owned my digital camera for over three years now, so to find something new on it was really great for me.
Its part of the benefit of not working to have time to read, or to find out new things, without constant distractions.
I start working again next Monday. Having so much free time since taking redundancy from my previous job at the end of March has been a huge advantage for me. I wish I could win the lottery, and then I would have free time like that for the rest of my life.
Anyway, I leant how to use the super macro setting on my camera and I had a go at photographing some of small creatures that visit the garden last week.
The first things I found were some slugs and slaters. I took some close ups of them.

Slugs are revolting up close, as they are slimy, as well as having dirt and crap stick to them, whilst they move around.
I also found a caterpillar and took some close ups of him too. He fell over and rolled on to his back at one point, maybe he was drunk, or something.
There were a few bumblebees buzzing around. I got a few good pictures of them, including one in midflight.

A wasp or a hoverfly was enjoying sitting on a flower, so I got a picture of it.

I found some flies on another flower, and they came out well too. In one of the pictures, you can see a fly sucking up the pollen with its straw like tongue.

There were two beetles doing it on a leaf, so I took their picture as well.

The results came out really well, as good as my old film SLR, which my digital camera replaced three years ago. I will look into buying a digital SLR in the future, but for now, I am very pleased with what my current camera can do.
I enjoyed taking super macro pictures. I will take some more when I get time to do so.
